New Brighton

A wander was taken around New Brighton this afternoon, to find that the place has gone even more downhill than memory recalls. Half of the mall shops are abandoned, and the entire south side of the mall seems to consist of $2 shops, and Russian owners seems to be popular there. Still, I did come away with a few tchotchkes of interest so it wasn’t a complete loss.

Today has been a good opportunity to catch up on a 6-month backlog of the Scriptnotes podcast. They have many insightful things to say about the movies and how they’re made.

I’ve only just recently though realised that they are responsible for writing several enjoyable movies. John August has done Charlies Angels (2000) and its sequel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), Corpse Bride (2005), Dark Shadows (2012), and Frankenweenie (2012), and Craig Mason is responsible for Scary Movie 3 (2003) and Scary Movie 4 (2006), The Hangover II (2011) and The Hangover III (2013), and Identity Thief (2013).

It’s intriguing to realise that there’s been very little in their œuvre that has been unenjoyable.

i4e updates

Some of the issues that I’ve been having with the i4e character manager will soon be resolved. @cordaxmike recently posted that he’s just finished figuring out how to handle augments. I would also love to have some way to see a breakdown of the bonuses and modifiers that have been applied to certain things, so a bug report expressing such things along with a reply to his twitter post might help to achieve some traction on such things. We’ll see.
